Jockey Jamie Mott kept his unbeaten record intact on Fortune Rose when she scored at Kyneton on Friday.
The four-year-old mare had lost form at her last three starts but was always in a winning position in the Mountain Distilling Company BM58 Hcp (1200m).
Entering the home straight the daughter of Helmet peeled off the leaders back and shouldering 61kg fought on strongly to the line beat Our Hot Date in a photo finish with Memphis Squaw close up in third place.
Trainer Jamie Edwards could not have had Fortune Rose any better for the Kyneton assignment and he expected a big run from her.
“I would have been so disappointed if she hadn’t fired today,” Jamie said.
“I couldn’t fault her going to the races. She looked fantastic, she’s very fit and she was bouncing around.”
“She is much better than she had shown at her three previous runs and it was great to see her get the result at Kyneton.”
Jamie Mott has ridden Fortune Rose twice for two wins, with his previous success on the mare when she resumed four starts ago on the synthetic at Ballarat on July 30.
“Both times I have ridden her the race has worked out very well for her and I think coming back from 1450m to 1200m suited her,” Jamie said.
He said Fortune Rose was determined to win after she hit the front at the 100m.
“The second horse made a really strong challenge, but she was in for the fight,” he said.
