Colt Forty Five became the sixth multiple winner for the stable this season when he emphatically fired back into form to score at Donald on Saturday.
With a highly effective ride from Dean Yendall, the Toronado gelding romped home in the Donald Steel Metaland 0-56 Hcp (1206m).
Importantly the win confirmed Colt Forty Five was back to his best after his last start Echuca failure was attributed to a cardiac arrythmia.
“He looked the best horse in the race, and we were confident he could bounce back,” assistant trainer James Edwards said.
“He hadn’t missed a beat since his last run and could not have been more impressive today.”
Colt Forty Five joins the stables other multiple winners this season – Tori’s Dee (4 wins), Come Along Jeffrey (3 wins), as well as other dual winners Cat Noir, Hughie, and Just Bolts.
Three starts ago Colt Forty Five belatedly won his maiden at Hamilton and is now starting to realise his potential.
Dean Yendall plotted his flight path before race and always intended to be wide and away from the chopped up heavy ground near the rail.
“I was happy to sit eight (horses) off the fence the whole way as the track is very, very worn, and tired on the inside,” Dean explained.
“I gave him a squeeze from around the 500m, and he came up underneath me and really let down and dug deep the last furlong (200m).”
Colt Forty Five was backed from $7.50 to $5.50 equal favourite and after settling midfield raced away to beat Miss Himalaya ($7.50) and Please Me Do ($7.50).
Stu and Vicki Mayne own Colt Forty Five who will be aimed at a BM56 VOBIS event over 1200 metres at Echuca on July 24.
