Home-bred gelding Bingoesbang joined a growing band of recent race debut winners for Emsley Lodge when he scored at Terang on Sunday.

The son of Starcraft emulated Tori’s Dee, Belmia, and Tex Mex who are also first start winners for the stable since late July last year.

Ridden Arron Lynch and backed from $7 to $4.60, Bingoesbang came from third last with a brilliant finishing burst over the last 200 metres to land the Southwest Horse Transport Maiden (1000m).

After throwing his head around and racing ungenerously in the early stages, he was inconvenienced by his more favoured stablemate Tango Jewel ($3.20f) approaching the 400 metres but recovered well.

Tango Jewel, also making her debut, loomed up to challenge the leaders near the 200 metres but Bingoesbang had the last crack and got up on the line to beat Fillentina ($4.80) by a head with Emrys ($9) a nose away third. Tango Jewel battled on strongly into fifth place, beaten less than two lengths.

Arron Lynch said Bingoesbang was going to finish perhaps fifth but hammered home after when given a crack with the whip.

The three-year-old Starcraft gelding is a home-bred son of former Emsley Lodge-trained mare Midnight Charge and is from the same family as Group One Coolmore Stakes winner Headway.

While he has shown an abundance of ability, Bingosbang has been a slow learner and his debut win was a nice bonus for his owners.

“We were hoping to get some prizemoney to get out of a ballot situation so for him to win was a great result for everyone,” trainer Jamie Edwards said.

“He is a big, raw galloper with a high knee action who is only going to get better with racing.”

“He made it look easy today and he will no doubt improve with more racing.”
